On 24 March 2025, Her Excellency Ms. Piyapin Niyomrerks, Ambassador of Thailand to Kazakhstan, gave a virtual welcoming address at the opening of the seminar titled “Thailand’s Economic, Trade, and Tourism Opportunities in Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and the Eurasian Region”, which was inaugurated by Associate Professor Dr. Pavika Sriratanaban, Director of the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University. The seminar, held at Social Innovation Hub Chulalongkorn University, was a joint initiative between the Royal Thai Embassy in Astana, the Institute of Asian Studies, and the Transport Institute of Chulalongkorn University.
In her opening remarks, Ambassador Piyapin highlighted the Embassy’s commitment to advancing Thailand’s “Proactive Economic Diplomacy” in Kazakhstan and Central Asia and underscored the potential of trade and tourism as essential pillars in strengthening Thailand-Kazakhstan relations. The seminar aimed to enhance collaboration between the Thai and Kazakhstan private sectors by providing necessary information and fostering cooperation through practical strategies. Topics covered included effective market penetration in Kazakhstan, improving logistics for Thai goods transportation, and clarifying regulations for importing Thai products into Kazakhstan. Furthermore, Ambassador Piyapin emphasized the importance of enhancing tourism cooperation between Thailand and Kazakhstan, particularly through cooperation between government agencies, and partnerships between tourism operators which would render mutual benefit for tourism industries of both countries. The seminar attracted approximately 80 participants, including representatives from the Thai public and private sectors, members of the general public, and students with an interest in exploring business and tourism prospects in Kazakhstan and the broader Central Asian region.
The seminar on “Thailand’s Economic and Trade, and Tourism Opportunities in Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and the Eurasian Region” is part of the Embassy’s broader project to enhance connectivity in goods transportation and trade activities, expanding opportunities for the Thai private sector to access markets in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, held between 22 and 28 March 2025. Representatives from Kazakhstan’s trade and logistics agencies, including QazTrade and KZT Express (a multimodal transport and logistics company under “Kazakhstan Railways - Temir Zholy,” the national railway company of Kazakhstan), as well as representatives from Kazakh Tourism and the Kazakhstan Tourism Association have taken part in this project.
