On 12 September 2025, H.E. Mrs. Piyapin Niyomrerks, Ambassador of Thailand to Kazakhstan, together with the official and staff of the Royal Thai Embassy, met with Mr. Zhandos Shaimardanov, Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (KISI). The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views and explore avenues to further strengthen academic cooperation between Thailand and Kazakhstan, as well as with other countries in Central Asia. Discussions also covered the forthcoming visit of a Thai delegation to Kazakhstan in late September - early October 2025, aimed at expanding academic and research networks between leading educational institutions of Thailand and Kazakhstan, and supporting the establishment of a Central Asian Studies Center at a prominent Thai university.
KISI is recognized as a key policy research institute of Kazakhstan, serving as a mechanism for research and analysis to support the formulation of strategic directions in both domestic and foreign policy of the Government of Kazakhstan. It also plays an important role in international cooperation through its extensive network with leading research institutes around the world. The meeting between the Ambassador and the Director of KISI thus marks another significant step in advancing Thailand’s “Track II Diplomacy,” which leverages academic cooperation and knowledge-sharing as a foundation for strengthening cooperation between the two countries in multiple dimensions, while also fostering Thailand’s long-term engagement with the Central Asian region.
