On 11 June 2026, H.E. Mrs. Piyapin Niyomrerks, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Kazakhstan, paid a visit to Almaty Region and paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Marat Sultangaziyev, Akim (Governor) of Almaty Region. During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to further enhance economic, trade, investment, and tourism cooperation between Thailand and Kazakhstan, particularly with Almaty Region, one of Kazakhstan’s most dynamic and economically significant regions. On this occasion, the Ambassador invited the Akim of Almaty Region, as well as representatives from the regional government and business community, to participate in the Thailand - Kazakhstan Business Forum, which will be held on 26 June 2026 at the Ritz-Carlton Almaty. The Forum is jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, the Royal Thai Embassy in Astana, and Kazakhstan’s partner institutions, namely Kazakh Invest and QazTrade. The event aims to serve as a platform for business networking and investment promotion, while providing private-sector representatives from both countries with an opportunity to exchange information on economic potential, investment opportunities, and prospective areas for future business cooperation.

The two sides also exchanged views on preparations for the upcoming official visit of H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, to Kazakhstan from 24 to 27 June 2026, including his programme in Almaty from 25 to 27 June 2026. The Office of the Governor of Almaty Region expressed its readiness to support the visit and shared the view that the occasion would provide an important opportunity to further strengthen practical economic cooperation between Thailand and Almaty Region. The Ambassador was also briefed on the economic strengths and development plans of Almaty Region, particularly in the areas of tourism, modern agriculture, food processing, logistics, and transportation. Discussions also covered the development of Alatau City, a new smart city initiative envisioned by Kazakhstan as a future regional hub for innovation, technology, investment, and sustainable economic growth in Central Asia.
