The Royal Thai Embassy in Astana Hosts a Dinner in Honour of Delegations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Institute of Asian Studies of Chulalongkorn University (IAS), and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT)

On 1 October 2025, H.E. Mrs. Piyapin Niyomrerks, Ambassador of Thailand to Kazakhstan, hosted a dinner reception at the Ambassador’s Residence in honour of the delegations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute of Asian Studies of Chulalongkorn University (IAS), led by Associate Professor Dr. Thitirat Panbumrungkij, and Associate Professor Jirayudh Sinthuphan, Deputy Director of IAS, with the participation of Mr. Kasemsan Thongsiri, Director of South Asia and Central Asian Division, and officials from the Division, as well as the delegation from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), led by Mr. Supachai Koonsad, Director of the Power Plant and Transmission System Business Management Division.

The reception was held on the occasion of the visit by the delegations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University, to the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Kazakhstan to promote cooperation and academic networking between Thai institutions and their counterparts in Central Asia. The visit formed part of the preparations for the establishment of the Center for Central Asian Studies under the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University, in 2026.

Concurrently, the delegation from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) also visited Kazakhstan to participate in the Kazakh Energy Week 2025, one of Kazakhstan’s key international platforms on energy and investment, held in Astana from 30 September to 2 October 2025.

On this occasion, the Thai delegation held extensive discussions on ways to further strengthen Thailand–Kazakhstan relations and cooperation in various areas, in the context of Kazakhstan’s policy to promote the transition toward clean energy and carbon neutrality.

The Kazakh Energy Week 2025, held under the main theme “Energy for Sustainable Development: Partnership, Innovation, and Transition,” focused on promoting cooperation in clean energy, advancing the green energy transition, and attracting investment to strengthen energy security in Central Asia and the Eurasian region. The event was attended by high-level representatives from both the public and private sectors, including Turkish Petroleum, Shell, and TotalEnergies.
