On 7 - 8 April 2026, H.E. Mrs. Piyapin Niyomrerks, Ambassador of Thailand to Kazakhstan, together with officials and staff of the Royal Thai Embassy in Astana, led a delegation of Thai medical professionals and executives from medical and public health innovation companies from leading institutions, including Chulabhorn Royal Academy, the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, Samitivej Hospital Group, and C.T. Asia Robotics, to hold discussions with executives and visit leading medical centers of excellence in Kazakhstan, namely the National Research Oncology Center (NROC), University Medical Center (UMC), National Center for Children’s Rehabilitation, and National Scientific Medical Center.
The visit formed part of the Project entitled “Thailand-Kazakhstan Academic Medical Collaboration on Oncology, Precision Medicine, Multidisciplinary Care, and Wellness”, organized by the Royal Thai Embassy in Astana from 5 - 9 April 2026, with the objective of advancing Thailand’s Science, Research and Innovation Diplomacy, constituting an important component of Thailand’s economic diplomacy policy, and supporting the promotion of Thailand as a regional hub for healthcare, as well as exploring opportunities to promote Thailand’s medical tourism sector in the Kazakhstani market. On this occasion, both sides discussed potential avenues for future cooperation in high-potential areas, including oncology, precision medicine, medical rehabilitation, and the application of advanced medical technologies and innovations. They also exchanged experiences in hospital management, human resource development, and the utilization of advanced technologies in diagnosis and treatment.
The Kazakhstani side expressed strong interest in further expanding cooperation with Thailand, particularly in the areas of medical research and innovation, such as advanced cell and gene therapy, innovative breast cancer screening using AI, as well as the advancement and excellence in clinical care and service of Thailand’s private hospitals. The Samitivej Hospital Group expressed its readiness to provide medical consultation through telecommunication systems (teleconsultation) in areas of its expertise, and both sides have plans to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote cooperation in the near future. In addition, Kazakhstani medical institutions plan to invite Thai medical institutions to deliver lectures and continue knowledge exchange in areas of mutual interest. These developments represent tangible outcomes of the visit and will serve as an important foundation for further advancing sustainable cooperation in healthcare and public health between Thailand and Kazakhstan.
